After what has felt like a long, cold winter, tapping has begunš
Scott started tapping last weekend before temperatures got too cold. Then he got a few more done over the past couple of days.
New snowshoes are great.
New snowshoes have worked out well. Conditions are not ideal; in fact, theyāve been pretty tough up here on our āmountainā: a crust that breaks and you drop down a couple of feet with each
step.Ā
Classic tapping pose.
Tapping involves dropping the tubing, drilling a new hole in every tree, setting the spile or tap and gently tapping it in with a small hammer.Ā
Went to New Glasgow today for errands with Samara and it was 9 degrees! Here it sure didnāt get that warm - I think Scott said plus 3. Anyhow, despite reports of sap in the Valley and even at our
neighbourās (sheltered) sugar woods, we have to see any of the sweet clear stuff. Soon enough.Ā
Hi there.
Are you folks still getting sap?
I'm a newbie at this and trying to absorb as much info as possible.
We did only 4 trees 4 our first tap.
Had 3 boils, last one yesterday. Good day to have an outdoor fire. Boil went faster.
If our temps go below freezing 4 the next 3 nights will the sap still b flowing?
I'm in the valley area but half way on South Mnt., so a little colder up here.
We have more maples we can tap but wondering if it's worth it.

Hey there, I know lots of "backyarders" down your way have finished. But if your sap is tasting and smelling good and making good syrup, keep it up. It's getting late though, so I'd personally not
put in any more taps.
